Biblical Examples of Faith in God

by I Go to the Rock

There are many examples of faith in the Bible that demonstrate trust and obedience to God.  To trust God is to believe in His integrity, rely on His strength, and to know He is able to help you.  We can use these examples to help us learn how use our faith in God.

Noah was warned by God about the storm that was coming.  Without any evidence, Noah started preparing for the storm.  He started building, and he started storing supplies.  There are times in our lives that we are warned about things to come, and we have a choice to make.  Do we listen to that still small voice and start preparing, or do we ignore it?  We should trust God’s guidance, and He will not lead us wrong.

Abraham was another excellent example of faith and obedience to God’s leading.  He left what was familiar and comfortable and set out on a journey of faith that would lead him to not just a new land but to a land of promise.  He did not know where he was going, but because he felt God’s guidance, he went out in faith.  There are times in life when we are called to go to new, unfamiliar places.  It could be a new job, a new state, or a new church, but the key is to know that God is acting in our best interest and would never lead us in the wrong direction.  Trusting God means knowing that He would never lead us to a dry land but instead to a land that is full of promise.

By faith Sarah conceived as an older woman because she believed that God was faithful to His promise.  This example shows not only the faithfulness of God, but the willingness to do whatever it takes to fulfill God’s promise in life.  As a woman of age, carrying a baby to term would have been somewhat awkward.  Sometimes the things God calls us to do are awkward.  They don’t always feel great, but the promise that is fulfilled is what we want to receive.

Abraham had to believe, as well as take action for God’s promise to come to pass.  As time went on, he did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief.  He was strengthened in faith, gave glory to God, and was fully convinced that what “He had promised He was also able to perform” (Romans 4:20-21).

Can you imagine God giving you a blessing and then asking you to make a sacrifice with the blessing?  That is what happened with Abraham.  God promised them a baby, Sarah conceived and bore Isaac, and then God asked Abraham to make Isaac a sacrifice.  Abraham’s trust and faith in the Lord was a tremendous example for us.

These are only three of the many examples of faith that are in the Bible.  We can see from these examples how God keeps His promises to those who remain faithful.  We need to stand firm in our beliefs in God’s promises just like Noah, Abraham and Sarah.

The New Testament is filled with biblical examples of faith in God’s promises.  We should explore the scriptures for examples of how Christ’s disciples remained faithful in spite of their circumstances because these examples show us how to remain steadfast in our faith in God and His promises.

One good example of the type of faith we should have in God’s Word is in Matthew, Chapter 8, where the centurion soldier asked Jesus to heal his servant.  The interesting part of this example is not that this soldier was fearless enough to approach Jesus, but that he had pure faith in Jesus’ ability to supernaturally heal his servant.

Supernatural healing comes only from God, and it happens because we believe so sincerely that God can and will heal our hurts, diseases, and relationships that we eliminate all doubts and fears.  When we submit ourselves to God’s Word, humble ourselves, and seek Him in prayer, that is when God hears, answers and heals us.  We must truly believe that He can reach any situation that we are going through.  We should not dwell on our conditions.  No situation is too difficult or impossible for God to resolve.  We must trust that He would never leave us nor forsake us and that He is always there for us.

When it looks like we have no other choices that is when we need to turn to the Word of God for examples of how others exercised their faith.  These biblical examples show us how God answered the prayers of those who remained faithful and continued to believe.  If we look to God’s Word, petition Him in prayer, and believe, God will supply our needs.  We have to stand firmly on our faith and not waiver just like believers did back in biblical times.

The centurion had such belief in Jesus’ ability to heal his servant that he didn’t think that Jesus even needed to take a special trip to his home.  He believed that Jesus could perform the miracle right from where he stood without having to physically touch the servant.  Jesus commended the centurion on his faith, and he noted that he had not seen faith like he possessed in all of Israel.

Whenever it feels like our faith is beginning to falter, we should always remember the strong faith of the centurion.  His faith was not hindered by fear or distance.  He knew that Jesus possessed supernatural power and was able to heal his servant, and he refused to believe otherwise.

God has already sent us His Word.  When we start to recognize the power in the Word, speak God’s blessings over our lives, and believe God’s Word through faith, we will become faith giants.  God is the same today as He was during the time of the centurion, and His supernatural power has not changed.  This means we can experience awesome miracles through faith right now just as they did in biblical times.  All we need to do is be faithful.

How Jesus Demonstrated Faith

by I Go to the Rock

When we think about examples of faith in the Bible, the very first example to come to mind should always be Jesus. Jesus’ very life is an example of how God’s divine plan for our lives can unfold in such an unexpected way.  There are many examples of ways that Jesus demonstrated faith during his time on Earth.

As Jesus traveled, taught, and performed miracles, not only did he demonstrate his faith by performing the miracles, but he served as a testimony of the power of God in the land. Jesus’ faith to do what God called him to do helped many who doubted to believe that he was indeed the Son of God.

His teachings helped the people understand who God is, and he taught great life lessons about how to live, trust, and believe in God. His ministry was designed to teach and help people grow in faith.

Jesus responded to and rewarded the faith of his followers. He showed that there is a great reward and benefit to those who believe. He also showed that to have faith we must believe in our hearts that God will reward those who diligently seek Him.  God doesn’t ignore our cries for help.  He answers us because of our faith in Him.

As a believer reading the Bible, I would think with all God’s power and with Jesus being His son, Jesus would not have to die on the cross to save us from our sins. Jesus knew that his death was necessary for our salvation so he submitted his will by having faith in God the Father.

Faith is not always an easy thing. Sometimes we wrestle with difficult decisions we need to make. It is sometimes hard to trust God and to let Him lead us in the direction He wants us to go.  Jesus felt this way in Gethsemane.  He knew what was coming, and he didn’t want to go to the cross. He wrestled with his decision. He pleaded with God, but in the end, he trusted God.

With this act, Jesus demonstrated the power of prayer and how prayer helps us in our faith walk with God. There is no other form of communication that can bring the peace that only comes from God when times are difficult and we are faced with tough decisions.  This peace of God “passes all understanding” and “keeps our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

When Jesus came to the realization of how he must trust God, the cross was not an option. He demonstrated faith as he went along with God’s plan for humanity, and he understood his role.  His very death itself was the ultimate example of faith. Jesus believed the promise of God that he would be resurrected and returned to glory to be with the Father in Heaven.

When we need examples of faith, we should always study how Jesus lived.  The Bible says in Hebrews 12:2 that Jesus is “the author and finisher of our faith.”  Therefore, we should always look to him for demonstrations of how to use our faith in unforeseen circumstances.  He should always be our first role model.

7 Ways to Exercise Faith

by I Go to the Rock

You cannot truly have faith in God without action on your part. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God and believing what you have heard and read.  You must exercise your faith in order to become a stronger Christian.  Below are seven ways you can take action and exercise your faith.

1. Believe God’s Word

When you believe God’s Word as truth, you are exercising your faith. To exercise means to use or apply something.  As Christians we use or apply our faith as we believe God’s Word as truth and live our lives according to the principles and lessons found in it.

There are a lot of good things in the Bible you can take hold of to increase your faith. In times of difficulty, it is helpful to read 1 John 4:4 and believe “Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.” In times of doubt or confusion, you can rely on Proverbs 3:51 which says to “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.”

2. Obey the Word of God

Reading and knowing God’s Word is not the same as the act of obeying His Word. When you live by faith, obedience is extremely important. You cannot live by faith when you ignore or overlook what the Word of God says about your life.  Whether it is deliberate or unintentional, disobeying God’s Word is being unfaithful.

3. Trust in God’s Word and His Goodness

Faith and trust are inseparable. You cannot have true faith unless you trust and believe in God’s goodness.  As a believer you should hold in your heart the love God has for you and remember how He showers you with His goodness.

4. Pray over God’s Word

It is important to pray God’s Word. This will not only keep your mind and heart attuned to the promises of God, but when you petition God with His very own Word, this begins to build your faith as you see God move and change situations for you.

5. Meditate on the Promises and Miracles of God’s Word

Do not just pray God’s Word once, but also take the time to meditate on the Word. Saturate your mind and spirit with the Word, and you will notice your faith increasing, especially in difficult times when you are not sure how you will make it through.

6. Combat Doubt with Faith

Whenever you have a negative or doubtful thought, immediately change the wording of your thought to a statement full of faith that God, our Creator, is in charge and that He is protecting you from your enemies.

7. Surrender Your Mind and Life to God

Surrendering your mind and life to God every day not only strengthens you as a believer, it also will help you build and increase your faith.

Exercising your faith doesn’t have to be confusing.  Just remember that you have to take action in order to genuinely have faith.  If you use these seven steps to exercise your faith on a daily basis, you will see positive growth in your faith.

Why Faith is Important

by I Go to the Rock

Faith is essential to our lives as believers, and if you’ve ever wondered why faith is important this article will shed some light on the answers. It is the very foundation of our Christian belief. We begin our journey with the profession of our belief and faith in who God is.  We believe by faith that Jesus lived, died on the cross, and rose on the third day. Because of our faith, we know that God not only is our Father in Heaven, but He loves us so much He gave His son Jesus for the redemption of our sins.  We have faith that God actually loves us enough to take care of our needs. We have faith that He hears our prayers when we call Him.

Having faith is a necessity for Christians, and here are three reasons why it is so important for us to have in faith our lives.

1. Faith is Pleasing to God

Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God. Not only must we believe who He is, but we must believe that He rewards those who diligently seek Him. It pleases God when we seek to have a strong relationship with Him that is built on our trust and belief in Him. When we seek Him with a pure and believing heart, God lovingly answers our prayers, heals our bodies, and mends our broken relationships.

2. Faith Determines Our Actions

Faith is important because it affects the decisions we make, the way we interact with others, and the way we react to the situations that confront us. Faith must be practiced. The more we put our trust in God, the more faith we develop. Some of us start with just a small amount of faith.  The Bible talks about having just a “mustard seed”-size amount of faith. It is not the amount that counts, it is the belief in our heart that at all times God is with us, will provide for us, and will rescue us from the enemy.  Faith in practice develops more faith in action.

3. Faith Gives Us a Testimony

Our testimony and witness is based on our faith. Have you noticed that we win others to Christ not only by our actions but also by the words that we speak? When something great happens, we often cannot wait to share the good news.  This is how we should be as Christians.  We should be sharing our good news of faith about how God worked in our lives, changed our situations, and helped us through tough times. The words of testimony not only build up the person speaking, but they give courage to the hearer of the testimony and encourage them to believe God, too.

Having faith as a believer is the starting point of a loving relationship with our Heavenly Father. Start believing God today for those little things that need changing, and before you know it, you will have faith that moves mountains in your life.

What is Meant by Fruits of the Spirit?

The Fruit of the Spirit is made up of nine visible qualities, or attributes, of a Christian’s life. These fruits, or traits, are spoken about in Galatians 5:22-23.

Fruits of the Spirit include:
1. Love
2. Joy
3. Peace
4. Longsuffering
5. Gentleness
6. Goodness
7. Faith
8. Meekness
9. Temperance

As one, these nine qualities are the fruits that Christians should be manifesting in their lives. When followers of Christ live their lives by these qualities, the world sees the result – a person walking in the Holy Spirit – hence the name Fruit of the Spirit.

Christians will grow in their walk by studying, and then applying, each of these traits in their lives. It’s important to understand that these nine fruits of the spirit come directly from God Himself and every Christian’s goal should be to incorporate them into their own life. This isn’t done through willpower or human strength, but by the amazing workings of the Holy Spirit in that person’s heart and life.

Made in His Image

God wants to transmit His own divine qualities into His people to enable them to be the reflection of Him to the world. Because of the faulty human nature, it is only by His Spirit that Christians can actually live out these qualities on a daily basis. God literally infuses the believer with fresh doses of His Godly characteristics to then pour out to those around them.

It Only Takes One Thing to Receive the Fruits of the Holy Spirit

In order to possess all nine of the fruits of the spirit, one must first die to self and allow Christ to dwell in them and shine through them. It’s such a relief to know that, as believers, all one must do is to to surrender their fleshly desires to the work of the Spirit in them. For some this is easier said than done, but oh what a reward once it has been completed. Once a person completely gives themself, then His mighty infusion of these Godly qualities flows through their own lives and into others around them.

There’s No Room for Anything Less than Complete Humbleness

It takes a heart totally humbled and fully surrendered to the Holy Spirit, along with an awareness of the believer’s intense need for the Spirit’s power at work in their lives. Then the Fruit of the Spirit will truly be seen by the world for what it is – a living proof of God’s nature in His people.
